Origin: Acatenango growing region, central Guatemala
OVERALL RATING: 94
Notes: Produced by Verónica Lantan Vela de Acajabon at Finca El General from trees of the Typica and Bourbon varieties of Arabica. This is a wet-processed or “washed” coffee, meaning the fruit skin and pulp were removed from the beans immediately after harvesting and before drying. Acatenango is the name of a coffee-growing municipality as well as a famous volcano overlooking the Antigua Valley of Guatemala. Kakalove Café is a nano-roaster located in the small city of Chia-Yi in Taiwan that strives to procure and roast the finest quality coffee. Blind assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Chocolaty, floral-toned. Plumeria, baker’s chocolate, tangerine zest, fresh-cut cedar, tamarind in aroma and small cup. Crisp, syrupy mouthfeel; sweetly tart finish with notes of tamarind and baker’s chocolate. In three parts milk, rich chocolate tones provide ballast for tart tamarind, and plumeria notes elevate the whole with pervasive sweetness.
